I don’t think anyone realizes how out of character and heartbreaking it was for Usagi to react to the break up in this way. This is a fourteen year old girl and her first boyfriend just broke up with her - forget all that destiny crap and blah blah past lives and save the world together blah - this is just an ordinary girl who swallowed her crybaby tendencies in the moment of the actual break up, went and sobbed her young heart out in a telephone booth, and the one regret she voices is an apology to her mother for not being able to bring her boyfriend around anymore. I think I might’ve been 6 or 7 when I first watched this episode and proceeded to bawl my eyes out without knowing anything about icky feelings for boys, and it’s probably why this scene still gets me.
